In Kitano, west of the entrance to the ropeway station for Nunobiki Herb Garden, there’s a unique venue where you can get lunch, coffee and sweets in a refreshing setting surrounded by greenery. Because of its open-air style Solacafe has been very popular during the pandemic, but visitors will likely be enjoying its delicious food and desserts for a long time to come.
Unless you plan to come by car, getting to Solacafe requires a bit of a climb. From the north side of Kitanodori, you’ll need to take a flight of stairs, then go up the short but steep hill leading to Kitano Club Sola. Solacafe is just a little farther up the hill from there.
Solacafe is open from 11:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, and there is also a breakfast service from 9:00 on weekends and holidays. Take-out desserts in distinctive and cute egg-shaped containers are sold there as well. During my visit, I bought a delicious and lovingly crafted chocolate and hazelnut dessert.
Got a green thumb? Just next to Solacafe is Green’s Farms, a nursery which is an absolute delight to visit. The various plants for sale are beautifully arranged, and the shop has the atmosphere of something like an open-air museum. If you’re looking for motivation to take up gardening as a hobby, look no further! A sign posted in the outside area advising you to “Enjoy Flowers” says it all.
